Whether we like it or not, the SQL language is here to stay. And there are lots of things to love about SQL! But it’s also undeniable that, as a language, it is often verbose, inexpressive, and difficult to maintain.

To address those issues, we write style guides, build linters, and conduct code reviews. Those approaches all focus on the end result, but this talk is about the process of developing software in SQL, and the tools that can make it easier.

We'll give an overview of tools and approaches for circumventing some of the awkwardness of writing SQL. We'll focus mainly on tools for code generation and database introspection.

Attendees should leave this talk with ideas for how they can improve and streamline their SQL development workflows, and a better understanding of today’s SQL development tooling ecosystem.
